IN PRACTICE

What happens around a release?

With APIRecap

  1. Connect once. Add a publishing key to your CI or deployment workflow and point it at the project and API you want to update.
  2. Publish after deployment. Send the OpenAPI or Markdown file once production succeeds. The new document becomes current, while retained versions keep their own links.
  3. Explain the release. Review detected changes and approve a client-facing note. Confirmed subscribers receive an alert after that first approval.

With ApiNotes

  1. Connect your OpenAPI file to the ApiNotes GitHub Action, or call its authenticated publishing endpoint from CI.
  2. Readers open the latest reference, inspect the generated changes and, where enabled, use Try-It-Now to send requests.
  3. Subscribers can receive email about published changes.

GO DEEPER

The differences that affect your decision.

01

Add the context a diff cannot know

APIRecap keeps the suggested release note private until your team approves it. Add rollout timing, client impact and migration instructions before sending the alert. ApiNotes focuses on an automatic changelog; its pricing page still labels authored per-deploy release notes as coming soon.

02

Where ApiNotes is a better fit

Choose ApiNotes for a free public API, an interactive Try-It-Now panel, authored guides or comparisons between any two versions. APIRecap compares adjacent retained versions and keeps its reference read-only.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you choose.

Do clients need an account?

APIRecap share links work without an account and can be forwarded. Private APIs require signed-in team access. ApiNotes offers password or magic-link access for private docs on its paid plan.

Can I bring several client APIs?

APIRecap groups independently versioned APIs under each client project. ApiNotes Team includes five APIs, with paid add-ons for more.

Can either tool publish after deployment?

Yes. Put the authenticated publish request after production succeeds. A merge alone does not prove the API is live.
