IN PRACTICE

What happens around a release?

With APIRecap

  1. Connect once. Add a publishing key to your CI or deployment workflow and point it at the project and API you want to update.
  2. Publish after deployment. Send the OpenAPI or Markdown file once production succeeds. The new document becomes current, while retained versions keep their own links.
  3. Explain the release. Review detected changes and approve a client-facing note. Confirmed subscribers receive an alert after that first approval.

With GitBook

  1. Build a GitBook site with the visual editor or Git Sync.
  2. Work on docs through change requests and reviews, then publish the site or its variants.
  3. Maintain release or announcement content within the site and choose how to distribute it to clients.

GO DEEPER

The differences that affect your decision.

01

Give each API release its own record

GitBook organises a wider documentation site, with change requests, reviews and variants. APIRecap groups independently versioned API documents under client projects. Each publish keeps its document, detected changes and reviewed release note together.

02

Where GitBook is a better fit

Choose GitBook for a broad product knowledge base, visual editing, search and content collaboration. Free Git Sync and its API playground already cover many public-docs workflows. Premium adds private share links; higher plans offer authenticated access.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you choose.

Can GitBook publish OpenAPI from CI?

Yes. It supports CLI, URL and CI/CD workflows alongside Git Sync. Place publishing after production succeeds if readers should see only shipped changes.

Can we import our whole GitBook site?

No. APIRecap accepts individual OpenAPI or Markdown documents, not a site tree or its interactive components. You can keep broader guides in GitBook.

Are private share links the same as team accounts?

No. APIRecap external links can be forwarded. Its signed-in Readers have project grants controlled by the Owner. Check the reader model you need in either product.
