IN PRACTICE

What happens around a release?

With APIRecap

  1. Connect once. Add a publishing key to your CI or deployment workflow and point it at the project and API you want to update.
  2. Publish after deployment. Send the OpenAPI or Markdown file once production succeeds. The new document becomes current, while retained versions keep their own links.
  3. Explain the release. Review detected changes and approve a client-facing note. Confirmed subscribers receive an alert after that first approval.

With oasdiff

  1. Run the oasdiff CLI or GitHub Action when an OpenAPI change enters a pull request.
  2. Review the side-by-side result.
  3. After the code deploys, publish client documentation and explain the released behavior through a separate process.

GO DEEPER

The differences that affect your decision.

01

Use free oasdiff checks alongside APIRecap

Run oasdiff in pull requests to catch contract changes before merge. After production deploys, publish the document to APIRecap and review the client note. Engineering sign-off and approval of the client message solve different problems. Neither tool verifies that your deployed service matches the document.

02

Where oasdiff is a better fit

Choose oasdiff for specialised OpenAPI comparisons, breaking-change annotations and pre-merge checks. Pro adds reviewer approval and an audit trail; merge enforcement depends on branch protection. Client docs hosting remains a separate choice.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you choose.

Does a clean comparison guarantee compatibility?

No. Runtime behaviour can change without a spec change. Review the contract and test the API before writing migration advice.

Are review links a lasting docs home?

oasdiff provides shareable side-by-side review pages; its free review links last seven days. APIRecap keeps a current reference and retained historical documents with sharing controls.

Which approval should happen first?

Use engineering review before merging when compatibility is a gate. APIRecap note approval happens around a published release and controls the client message and alert.
